Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council -

The first of these special events took place in Armagh when the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon hosted a reception with members of the United Nations Association Northern Ireland (UNA-NI). Students from the Royal School, Armagh attended, in recognition of the School’s participation in previous UNA events, in Belfast, Dublin and London. They presented a copy of the UN Charter to the Lord Mayor.
The Very Revd Gregory Dunstan, Dean of Armagh, was thanked publicly for accepting an invitation from UNA-NI to compile prayers to mark the seventieth anniversary of the UN. The Dean’s prayers have been sent to churches and faith groups throughout Northern Ireland, and it is hoped that they will be used to remember the UN.

The Principal, Staff member and Students of Sandelford Special School held a reception for the Mayor, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan, and members of UNA-NI. At the reception students presented the Mayor with a copy of the UN Charter while UNA members, Judith Fawcett, Leandre Monroe and Pat Irvine, presented the students with a copy of the Preamble of the UN Charter.
On United Nations Day itself, a reception was held in Belfast City Hall in the Lord Mayor's Parlour, hosted by the Deputy Lord Mayor, Alderman Guy Spence. Guests were invited from a range of organisations as well as UNA-NI's own membership. These photographs show the representation on the day, which proved a special way in which to mark UN Day at the start of the 70th anniversary year.

Derry City and Strabane District Council - 9 November 2015
Oakgrove Integrated College hosted the reception when the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Elisha McCallion, was presented with a copy of the UN Charter. The event involved attendance by student representatives from the whole School. Students Megan Duffy and Zoe McGirr made a short presentation about their involvement with Self Help Africa following their success in the BT Young Scientist Competition in Dublin. Both the Principal, Mrs Jill Markham, and Vice -Principal (and UNA-NI member) Mr John Harkin, spoke of the significance of this year in the life of the UN. Mrs Judith Fawcett, UNA-NI's Chairperson, spoke about the the UN, UNA and their 70th anniversaries. The School's Head Boy and Head Girl made the presentation of the UN Charter to the Mayor, and then received the copy of the Preamble of the UN Charter for the School.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabby Council, Councillor Thomas Hogg, met with UNA-NI representatives before the presentation event. Pictured with the Mayor are Vincent Burke, Leandre Monroe and Pat Irvine.
The Mayor hosted a reception for five local schools who were involved in the presentation of a copy of the UN Charter. The schools included Abbey Community College, Antrim Grammar School, Glengormley High School, Parkhall Integrated College and St Benedict's College.
